Dancing’s Mark Ballas Hurt: Tour in Question
Posted By: admin On: November 30, 2007 Comments: ( 1 )
Tuesday night’s performance with Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan sent her partner and boyfriend Mark Ballas to the hospital. Apparently they thought he had a torn muscle in his shoulder earlier on, but he insisted on dancing with Bryan since it was the finale. During the performance he dislocated his shoulder during one of their moves in the cha cha cha.
“If you watch the tape,” says Corky Ballas (Mark’s father), “you can actually see Mark grab his left shoulder during the dance. He actually danced that whole number with a dislocated shoulder. It happened right after he turned her under his left arm.”
After the performance he was rushed to the emergency room where doctors manipulated the shoulder back into place. Sabrina was required to stay behind in the audience. She rushed to the hospital after the show was over to be by Ballas’ side. “When Sabrina got there, he felt much better,” says Ballas’ father. “It was like an instant fix, an early Christmas present.”
While they were at the hospital, the rest of the cast and crew were at the wrap party. Sabrina had gifts to give everyone and Mark really wanted to go with her. At 2AM, he got dressed and went with Sabrina to the wrap party. He only stayed 15 minutes and went straight home to bed.
He went in for an MRI yesterday and that will determine if he needs surgery. Bryan and Ballas will both be on the 37-city Dancing with the Stars national tour, which begins December 18. Rehearsals began last Monday and are 8 hour dance sessions.
If his shoulder isn’t healed, Ballas might be out.

Helio’s Fiance Breaks Off Engagement
Posted By: admin On: November 28, 2007 Comments: ( 1 )
Just less than 24 hours after Helio Castroneves won the MirrorBall Trophy on Dancing the the Stars, his fiance Aliette Vazquez called off the engagement. Vazquez, a Miami-based business executive said through her publicist, Howard Bragman ”There’s been a lot of rumors and a lot of stuff said, and she just wanted confirmed that they are no longer engaged. There’s no animosity, there’s nothing mean. Just a simple confirmation,” he told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Aliette and Helio had been together for over 6 years and just got engaged last year.
Was her publicist hinting about the rumors between Julianne and Helio that have been brewing since their first kiss? ”I’m not gonna talk about the rumors. I mean, they’re clearly out there,” said Bragman, who wouldn’t comment on when the engagement ended. “I will tell you (that) we wanted to be respectful and wait until the show was over,” he said. “We did not want to affect the outcome of the show.”
Helio Castroneves did confirm with People that they did indeed split, but mum was the word as he wanted to keep his private life private. Helio will be on Inside Edition tonight and he’ll talk more about the split. He calls Vazquez a “great person” and says, “I’m sure we’re going to be friends and now is a moment I’m going to enjoy,” he said. “It’s a shame. It is what it is.”
Julianne apparently called of her engagement to Zach Wilson earlier this year telling a popular entertainment TV show “I’m 19. I’m really focused on my career. We’re really good friends.”
Vazquez publicist also said “I know Helio and I’ve known him a long time and I think he’s a good guy — and I think she’s a good guy — and it’s just a tough situation. And I want them to get through it as painlessly as possible. (She) wanted to set the record straight. This is a personal decision and I ask the media to respect the privacy of Miss Vazquez and her family. She has no plans to talk to the media, but reserves that right if she needs to clarify misinformation or defend her reputation.”
Hmmm..I think she’s a good guy? Her publicist didn’t make much sense there. LOL!
All I know is there will be a lot of happy people if Helio and Julianne confirm a romance. Their kiss last nice will probably have people wondering - as she did grab his head and hold the kiss position. Just earlier though she received a ring from Kevin Connolly so who knows what is up with Julianne. All we know is that Julianne Hough is HOT commodity right now.
Here’s the video of the Helio and Julianne long kiss from last night’s quickstep dance.
THE FINALE!!!

Heart beating fast…sweaty palms…nervous stomach…and that’s just me, imagine how the dancers feel!! Here we are at the finale and the remaining celebs and dancers are in costumes from earlier in the season. Helio is in his Dick Tracy outfit, that was a pretty great dance as I recall. During the recap they show Marie crying backstage…who cares. Hopefully they won’t keep us in suspense long about who is eliminated first. Samantha Harris interviews the finalists backstage, Marie makes lame jokes about what she is going to miss, Mel B. says it is the crew, Helio said it was Julianne and got all cutesy and funny when Samantha interrupted him, I really hope he wins.
Celine Dion is going to perform “My Heart Will Go On” before they announce the first loser. I know she is cheesy, but I love Celine Dion, I’m going to sit back and enjoy this. Edyta is dancing with some guy I don’t recognize, Cheryl Burke joins them, I can’t tell who her partner is either. Karina “new nose” Smirnoff and Tony Dovoloni join them. It’s like a reunion. I guess that is Mark Ballas with Cheryl Burke. Celine Dion applauds the dancers, I read that she would like to be on the show, but I think she is way too big a star.
The first result is…YES, YES, YES!!! Marie Osmond is out, woohoo. They get a standing ovation because everyone is so glad that she is not going to win!!! I know Alyssa is jumping up and down right now. I have to admit, Marie was clever and funny during the exit interview, she referred to hers as a Cinderella story and called the judges the three step-sisters. It was cute. Jonathan said that Marie told him in the beginning that, “I want to win this and I am going to work hard to do it.” I knew she was like that. They do their big breakout Tango, with some added lifts. Ta ta, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
After the break, we take a trip back to the beginning of the show and see some highlights of all of the celebs. Of course, they show Jennie Garth’s fall again. I’m sure they could not resist. Josie Marin and Alec Mazo are back with a Foxtrot, please tell me we are not going to see everyone again…I can’t deal with any more Mark Cuban and Cameron Mathison dances. This dance was as boring as the first time.
Next they do a funny montage of the final three’s backstage antics. Helio and Julianne are by far the cutest. Yeah, we have to sit through all of these dances again, I’m going to need more wine. Albert Reed and Anne Trebunskya did a great job though, it’s funny to see how this show works out, like I said all about popularity and he is soo Albert who?
More montage of the performances, lots of funny zingers. Fun with the lift controversy. Now they welcome Wayne Newton & Cheryl Burke. Wayne will not be dancing, as previoulsy reported on this site, because of a heart condition. So instead, they do an interview which is a little boring, Cheryl looked uncomfortable, Mr Las Vegas was self deprecating and cute.
On to another montage of the friends and family of the celebs, almost all the Spices and some Indy car drivers. Even Helio’s sister, who is beautiful, apparently she explained to Helio what sequins were-he looks great in them. Floyd Mayweather and Karina Smirnoff are here to chat, I guess he is preparing for a fight so he won’t be dancing either, my guess is it is more ego keeping him from dancing than a sore ankle.
Next up to “dance” for us is Mark Cuban and Kym Johnson doing their foxtrot, ugh. They go to a montage about the week they did that dance, or something the time line confused me. I guess it was the week Marie fainted also the week of the Sabrina Bryan and Mark Ballas elimination shocker. The Cheetah Girl is then back to dance again, showing us all how fabulous she really is. They get a standing ovation that the fabulous Tom Bergeron lets go on for a while, love him.
Samantha then interviews Drew Lachey and Apolo Anton Ohno, it’s pretty boring. After the break Jane Seymour and Tony Dovoloni are back doing the Viennese Waltz, the musical arrangement and singer are miserable. On to yet another montage, this show should really only be an hour. Cameron Mathison and Edyta are back, I refuse to watch this. They’re gone, I’m back in time to see Mathison take of his shirt, admittedly funny. Tom can’t get control, everyone is hooting and hollering. Drew & Bruno start to take off their pants before they talk about Bruno & Carrie’s upcoming show, it was all really funny. I am totally looking forward to their new show, Dance War Bruno vs. Carrie Ann.
Next up are Derek Hough and Jennie Garth, cute but I am so bored with all of this that I can’t concentrate. Finally we are done seeing the losers dance. Samantha plugs DWTS’ People’s Choice Award nomination, vote for them!!
Celine Dion is back doing a song from her new album which they intersperse with clips of the season shown in fuzzy 70’s porn style. I guess it is supposed to make us all weepy. The montage was swell, but the song was AMAZING!! Then on to another montage about Mel B. and Helio Castroneves, what else is there to see and say???
Finally we get to see the celebs and their partners dance their last dance. Mel B. and Maksim are going to do the Mambo, which they got two 10′a and a 9 from the hater Carrie last time. They do a really fabulous job, so incredibly spunky! I hope they get all 10’s, I think they deserve it. Len calls it incredible, Bruno truly magnificent, let’s see if Carrie is still riding the old cotton pony. And she is not, she loved it, she squealed!! I think it’s a perfect score. yep, a perfect 30…stiff competition for my new boyfriend Helio Castroneves.
Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough are going to do their Quickstep again. Helio commentates with some race car driver lingo, so adorable. The dance is great. They kiss again for a long time, I’m totally jealous. The judges all love it, I think they also deserve a perfect score. Again with the perfect score!!
So it all comes down to the call in votes from last night. If only we knew who was in the bottom two. Tom kills some time by interviewing Josie Marin, Mark Cuban, Jane Seymour, and Jennie Garth-sort of. Tom Bergeron is great, have I mentioned that?
We are forced to sit through yet another montage before they announce the winner. This is a little out of control. Alright, here it is. The champions of Dancing With The Stars 2007 are HELIO CASTRONEVES AND JULIANNE HOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY, YAY, YAY!!! I’m ecstatic it was so worth waiting for, I love him, they totally deserve it! I feel a little sad for Mel B. and Maksim, but oh well. YAY HELIO!!! See you all next season!
Dancing with the Stars Finale Night - Winner Revealed
Posted By: admin On: Comments: ( 0 )
By: Alyssa
Who will win tonight? Tonight a champion will be crowned says Tom! Who? I am sooo sad, but happy at the same time. I’m sad that the show is ending, but happy to be watching and to see who wins. I’m a modge podge of emotions that is for sure.
The dancers have some familiar outfits on from favorite dances from the past season. Helio and Julianne have their “kiss” outfit on. We get to see recaps from last night and we finally find out that Mel B. forgot her freestyle steps and freestyled the freestyle dance - which is what they were talking about last night. We got to see Helio and Julianne do their racecar dance again and I am sitting here crying. I can barely see to type. I just love those two and I hate for this to end. Samantha asked them who they were going to miss and Helio said Julianne and was interrupted by Mel B. stating she forgot to say she’ll miss Maks. Helio gets “mad” stating he’s talking now and it is his turn. He throws his hat down and walks off, but comes back smiling. It was a cute routine and doesn’t look planned or staged.
We get to see Celine Dion as she sings all elegantly dressed in navy. She sings “My heart will go on”. Edyta and Alec, husband and wife dance first and they are beautiful. Mark Ballas and Cheryl Burke come out 2nd and are equally as gorgeous. Here comes Tony Dovolani and Karina Smirnoff doing a big lift as she spreads em up in the air. She’s in purple and looks very pretty and flowing. The three couples come back out and dance together, but as couples though. It was beautiful and Celine even claps for the dancers.
We’re back from commercial break and the couples are up on stage where the dreaded red lights are. I guess it is time to find out who is in 3rd place. Please let it be Marie Osmond. Ahhh..the drama. I’m nervous! Marie and Jonathon are leaving! YES! Third place, baby! That’s right. First prediction - correct! She is thanking Jonathon and it is like a cinderella story with her prince Jonathon. She called the judges the stepsisters. As Samantha talks, she interrupts pointing her finger at the judges saying “I don’t care what you said, I am a dancer.” Again, Samantha Harris is interrupted by Marie. Must be tough to be Samantha and no wonder she was cutting off Marie last night. We get to stroll down memory lane seeing Marie’s journey. She said that the show gave her something to count on during all the chaos - she says this through tears. She has had quite the journey that is for sure.
Right now they are dancing their farewell dance - the tango. This is the perfect dance to do when you are mad and she quite possibly could be with her 3rd place finish. But, she is an Osmond, so I doubt that highly.
We get to see one more dance for Helio and Mel B. and the judges will score them on it adding to their total score with America and last nights judges scores. I can’t tell if the dance will be a familiar one or not, but both have on outfits that we’ve seen before. We’ll see.
We’re back and see a trip down memory lane from Drew Lachey co-hosting, to bad dancer Josie Maran, Albert Reed - people I forgot. Jennie Garth’s fall - her crying. More bad dancing by Wayne - ahhh..the memories.
Alex Mazo and Josie Maran are back dancing the dance that kicked them off - the foxtrot. Let’s see if she has improved with no stakes this time around. She looks pretty with her long hair. She’s very cute and Alex looks like he is proud of her. She got a standing Ovation. That’s nice!
We get to see the laughs now starting with Marie and Jonathon. She downs a bottle of water - oh that is hilarious - NOT! Next up is Mel and Maks who are pretty funny actually. Mel B. is quite the character. She stated “I ballroomed my hair and he said good, ballroom your ass.” We get a montage of Maks belching all the time. Gross. Helio and Julianne are up and Helio talks to his feet seperately - LOL! Helio blows or does something on paper with his mouth making whistling type noises and the camera cuts to Julianne who is spitting up water because she’s laughing. Julianne then kisses Helio on the cheek.
We are now treated to Albert Reed dancing his Elvis number that got him kicked off the show. Albert wasn’t too bad especially on this dance, but he just doesn’t have a fan base. OMG I just saw him do the sprinkler rather violently. I hadn’t noticed it before really. Maybe they put some new moves in the dance because he just lifted Anna. He did so well and oh looky Apolo Anton Ohno is in the crowd. Awesome! Tom mentions to Albert how surprised he was that Albert was voted off and Albert said they were too..hehe! Anna commented that he really worked on the sprinkler - yeah baby!
We now see how the women dominated the men. Yep, exactly what I like to hear. It is about time, eh? We see Sabrina obviously and then Jennie Garth’s tango. Jane’s tango is shown too and then we see Jane backstage crying since that was the week she had to dance when she lost her mom. We see the lift controversy all over again - with Carrie Ann. We get to see Bridget’s favorite - Cameron Mathison do his superman routine again. Mean Floyd is back stating his scores better change and he means it - that Floyd’s violent on AND off the dance floor.
Wayne Newton and Cheryl are up next, but because of his heart condition they can’t dance. AWWW! He talks about how he is doing - he blamed it on the doctors and he said he thinks the doctors have seen him dance. Samantha brings up the fact that he is going on the tour this winter. Cheryl is asked what they are going through backstage waiting to see who wins and she said a mix of emotions, but most of all they can’t wait to party tonight.
Friends and family are brought up. The other Mel from the Spice Girls is showing her support for Mel B. Helio’s fellow racecar drivers are interviewed and they laughed at first, but now they love it. Helio’s sister is on there and she sounds and looks just like him. She’s cute. Maksim talks about Mel about how much he loves and respects her. Roger Penske is interviewed stating Helio will go all the way and do what it takes to win. Maks speaks so well of Mel B. - it is really nice to see. Oh wow - we see Lisa Rinna and her hubby, Harry Hamlin are sitting in the audience. I love seeing past contestants back. It really gives it the family feel, ya know.
Karina Smirnoff and Floyd Mayweather are up and they aren’t dancing tonight either. He mentions he has gone through lots of training - his ankle is tender and he can’t dance. WAAAH! He plugs his upcoming fight. He probably doesn’t want to since the man he is fighting was making fun of him on the dance floor - ya know, talking smack. Oh well - not like I am missing anything.
Next on the dance floor is Mark Cuban and Kym Johnson dancing their foxtrot. He’s up to the old face tricks again. He sings and sticks his tongue out. They add a lift to the dance too. They did it beautifully. We see Wayne and Floyd on the sidelines and Floyd is rockin’ out over there. Geez. Mark looks overly happy tonight. Tom said they were eliminated at the most talked about point of the season - why is that? We see the hotness that is latin week - and Marie fainting again. We get to see the stars as they watch backstage - Mel B. screams out “she’s fainted” and Sabrina drops something out of her hand. Never before seen footage. We see Sabrina leaving again - Carrie Ann crying as well as Marie. Awww..how sad that Sabrina got eliminated.
Sabrina and Mark are up next dancing their cha cha cha and oh remember they are in love. It is nice seeing them dance now knowing they are in love. When they end he looks like he is going to lean in and give her a kiss, but he opts for a forehead kiss. How sweet. The crowd cheers loud and Tom can’t even get a word in. Tom plugs the tour and mentions Sabrina and Mark will be on the tour too - yayy - hope they come to Indianapolis where I will be.
Samantha interviews Drew and Apolo; former winners. She mentions how Drew filled in for her and then asked him about the caliber of this season - he said this was the best season ever. Apolo said that the contestants are probably feeling relief right now, but feels like everyone should feel accomplished when they are done with the show and that can transform into everyday life. We’re taking backstage and see Maks/Mel and Julianne/Helio practicing their favorite dance of the season. I can’t remember Mel’s - although I do know she danced the dance well based on the dress she is wearing. Helio and Julianne chose the yellow banana kiss dance that everyone was talking about. Yay! The question is, will they kiss or won’t they? We’ll see. Also, Tom said they’ve added some tricks to them - so they should be even better. I can’t wait.
Jane Seymour and Tony Dovolani are on the floor now that we’ve come back from commercial. Some ladies are screaming out in the crowd - I guess glad to see Jane. They dance to “Piano Man” and she moves whistfully across the floor adding in some lifts - Yep, Carrie Ann, that was a lift. hehe! I got teary watching that. I am really going to miss this season’s cast. They blow kisses to the judges as if to say “Kiss it! I just did a lift” You get em Jane.
We relive the drama of Marie losing her Dad. Donny crying. Mel B. getting all 10’s. Helio’s sexy Samba with the peacock Julianne. Len getting on Cameron with his chest sticking out. We see the Helio and Julianne kiss again. Love that. Jennie Garth revealing Elimination night is her favorite time. Ohhhh No! Cameron Mathison is up next doing his Superman dance - ahhhh! Take it all in, Bridget, this will be the last time you see your honey doing this dance. Edyta’s back is so tan. Geez. I must admit that I really like this dance - the Paso Doble to the Superman Theme. It was awesome. Tom Bergeron mentions we should have the best moments on DVD and Tom, I agree with you. This whole season has been great moments - well, for the most part.
Oh No! Cameron ripped his shirt off and Jane and Sabrina can be seen mauling him in the crowd. OMG! Lisa Rinna is dying behind Tom - stomping her feet and laughing. She’s so cute. They plug the new dance show with Bruno and Carrie Ann. Drew took Len’s place on the judges panel and Drew and Bruno stand up pretending that they are gonna strip too like Cameron. LOL! Cute! Carrie Ann is fanning herself. Drew explains the new shows concept - it will be dancing AND singing. Should be a fun time. The new show, Dance Wars, Bruno vs. Carrie Ann premiers January 7.
We’re back and see Derek Hough and Jennie Garth dance. Jennie is shaking her stuff in front of Mark Cuban before they are announced and he says something to her…she turns around and gives him some type of lip service and he laughs. They do the mambo and she does something weird with her mouth. I wish they would do the dance that they fell on to see if they can do it without falling this time, but I guess we will never get to see that. It appears Derek suprised her at the end and she fell back further than they did before. It was rather cute.
Samantha is backstage with Helio and Julianne and Maks and Mel B. They “trash talk each other” and Helio says to break a leg and Mel gets up in the microphone and says “break your leg” LOL! Celine Dion is back singing a slow number. I think it could be new - I don’t know. She’s now wearing a short navy number. We get to see moments from the show as she sings. I think I’m gonna cry. I’ve heard this song before and I love it with this montage. AHHH! The memories. That was an awesome song, Celine.
We see a faceoff between Mel B. and Helio. Mel B. is referred to as The Diva. Helio is referred to as Mr. Charisma. They refer to his smile a lot. Bruno said he is like a little Fred Astaire. Carrie Ann said she just wants to pinch him cause he’s so cute. Len said Mel B. is the most versatile they’ve ever had on the show. They refer to Helio’s drive as a competitor, how he comes back stronger. Carrie Ann said he brought his competing mindset to the ballroom. Mel B. said coming in 2nd or 3rd is not an option. Helio wants the mirrorball trophy and it would look good between his two Indy 500 trophies. It sure would, Helio.
The dances of the final 2 is now here. Mel B. has scored the most points out of all the other contestants. Helio is introduced and his smile is mentioned. There’s a lot of smoke up on stage with them and it looks like Mel B. is gonna choke on it. LOL! Helio is acting up in a funny way and so is Maks girating back and forth. They get to choose their favorite dance of the season - She chose Mambo in her little orange number. She predicts they are gonna get all 10’s this time which means Carrie Ann will have to up her score 1. They make the dance bigger and better this time. I’m nervous. ahhhh!
They are very precise and right on tonight. She looked like she had a blast and so did Maks. He gives her three kisses as he falls on top of her. They hug for a long embrace and they keep showing her hubby. Is he uncomfy with those 3 kisses? I would be with a hottie like Maks. Len said, “You are an absolute revelation. This man is incredible. Fabulous!” Bruno said, “Truly magnificent. Your determination, professionalism , and humor is a credit to you. You’re a star.” Carrie Ann said, “It was…She stands up and screams. It was a great mambo. Thank You Thank You Thank You!” They keep their fingers crossed as she talks. It was cute. Mel gives Tom a huge kiss as she goes backstage. He replies with “I’m gonna miss that!” as he stammers. LOL! Maksim calls Mel B. queen of the floor backstage. She loved that. Their scores were 10’s across the board for a perfect 30. What a way to go out says Samantha Harris. Helio is clapping and looks a bit nervous backstage. They are up next.
Here we go - Helio and Julianne. He said he is gonna miss her. She puts out her lip and says awww. She asks him what dance he wants to do and she suggests the Paso Doble. He said no and he recommends the Quickstep - probably so he can kiss her again, right? LOL! Julianne calls him the banana man. hehe! They are taking a risk and not adding a lift since they already got a perfect score. I’m soooo sooo nervous now. Julianne winks to the camera again. The dance was faster, and more sassy this time. I LOVED IT! I was crying of course and couldn’t keep my eyes off of it. They kiss again at the end and he tries to do the same kiss. She holds his head this time and he doesn’t drop her. They just sit there and he tries to move his head around again. It was rather cute. Helio jumps up and goes for the crowd where Sabrina, Mark, Jane, and Cameron are standing. They are on their feet as is the rest of the crowd. Helio jumps into Cameron’s arms. Tom asks about the kiss - a long kiss and she said she gave it to him to show how proud she was of him. AWWW! I LOVED IT for the 2nd time!
Bruno said “You looked like you were doing the lap of honor already. Your attitude and sportmanship really make you a champ. We are all real proud of you.” Carrie Ann said, “This is my favorite dance. Watch what you do to these people. That is what dancing is all about.” Len said, “You’ve taken a risk every time you’ve danced. Julianne has given you tremendous difficulty. Great dance comes from great music and this is the best band in the world.” Maks and Mel stand up and give them a standing Ovation backstage. Helio thanks everyone including the people from Indianapolis - we love you too, Helio. They get 3 perfect 10’s for a total of 30 out of 30. Guess the vote is up to America. Helio jumps up and down in the camera’s face again. LOL! Julianne loves it.
84 out of 90 for Helio and Julianne and 85 out of 90 for Maks and Mel B. Tom talks to the constestants this season. Josie plugs her makeup line and Tom pokes fun at the plug. Tom skips Cameron and Cameron looks like he was ready for Tom - not this time Cameron. He goes straight to Jennie Garth and he says to roll the tape of her falling down. She laughs - but they don’t roll the clip. He’s joking with her saying “really, roll the clip - she loves it when we do that!” LOL!
Well, the time has come to see who the champ of Dancing with the Stars is. Will it be Helio Castroneves - the racecar driver or Mel B. the Spice Girl? Before that, we see Mel B. talking about when she first found out she had Maksim as a partner - she was excited because she knew she had the best dancer. When they first meet she mentions that he likes himself and she thinks he’s cocky. Yep, that’s right. Maks said this is the most amazing season he’s had so far. He said it was truly and honor to spend time with her. She states that Maks has given her more belief in herself. They hug and she states they are family now. Awww!
Helio and Julianne - the journey - Julianne knew that they were gonna have so much fun together. He was so excited when they first started dancing and it seems like as he practices he can’t believe he’s really dancing. Julianne loves his positive outlook on life everyday - it makes her want to be a better person. Helio says he would do it all over again without even thinking. I am getting teary eyed at this. I’m sooo sad, but so happy at the same time. I just love this show.
The champion is revealed as……..(Mel looks scared, Maks looks like he is praying to the Gods, Julianne looks nervous and hopeful, Helio looks down like he does when he can’t look at the scores)..the scary music is playing and the crowd claps - Helio WINS IT ALL! Mel and Maks hug and embrace. Helio hugs his sister. Julianne’s mouth is wide open. Tom reminds her of the back to back championships like Cheryl Burke has done. They give him milk to drink just like he gets at the Indy 500. He thanks his team, family, fans and Julianne! Samantha goes to Mel and Maks and asks for a round of applause. She stated she enjoyed all of it especially being with Maks. Maks looks disappointed. Aww! Julianne still looks surprised as ever. They hold up the mirrorball trophy. Mel B. congratulates him. Derek congratulates his sister. It is over - sadness. Cameron picks up Helio. Everyone is hugging Helio and it is just a feel good moment. I guess all my votes - yep, I created several accounts on ABC.com just to vote for Helio. I tried phoning in for an hour and it was busy the whole time. So, I’m glad my votes finally paid off. I’m so, so happy right now.
GO HELIO! YOU ROCK!
Dancing with the Stars Finale Part 1

Well, my tivo flaked out on me last night do to some workers over yesterday who just conveniently forgot to plug back in my satellite. I was FURIOUS - BEYOND FURIOUS when I got home only to find the only episode that I wanted to see this season was NOT recorded. Anyways, I am writing this a day late as I’m watching the episode on abc.com. Thanks ABC for posting full episodes. Now onto my take…
I loved the drama of the first package showing all the stars pulling out the stops and Tom Bergeron’s voice. It makes it so dramatic. First impressions: Oh Golly, Samantha Harris is bustin’ out - GEEZ OH PETE! Mel B. looks risque, Helio and Julianne are as cute as can be, Marie looks smug and needs to be slapped. Helio is so cute and is all smiles as he turns to the crowd smiling and clapping. I love his energy. Jonathon Roberts is sweating already - geez! Is he afraid of lifting Marie already?
Up first is Mel B. and Maksim. They bring in some boyz from the Spice Girl tour who bring some hip hop flavor to the freestyle dance. One boy is showing Maks how to dance and it is rather humorous as Maks normally is very arrogant. It is good to see him taking direction from a kid. What’s good is Maks realizes that it is challenging for him. The judges pick the cha cha cha for Mel B. and Maks as they danced it on week 1 and the judges want to see improvement. I agree with Bridget that the song choice was a little odd. I can kind of see it for this dance because of the beat pattern, but the words/lyrics didn’t seem to mesh. I noticed that Mel B. looked down a lot instead of playing to the crowd. Overall, I still think she did a fine job and I did notice improvement over week 1. She is very confident on the dance floor and that’s a good thing. She received a standing O and we get to see the Spice Girls in the crowd.
Len congratulated her on making it this far. He said it was a great performance and a great opening for tonight’s show. Bruno said she’s improved technically and has stunning visual impact. Carrie Ann said she looked great and it was really good. The footwork was so crisp and the hip action good, but she was expecting more excitement. Mel smacks Tom’s ass as she leaves and Maks hugs him with Tom saying “yes, yes get us much as you can.” LOL! She received a 28 out of 30.
Marie and Jonathon are up next. Jonathon brings out the crash pad for lifts. She has bruises all over her right arm. Dang! They ride a window washer lift to spy on Julianne and Helio - cheater - doesn’t suprise me. Appearing on Oprah and Larry King to promote yourself falls into that same category. Moving on…Judges pick Samba for Marie since she fainted the last time. Guess they want to see her do it while breathing and so they can critque it since they didn’t get to last time..or they just want to see her faint again - I don’t know. Her dance lacked content and there was a lot of cheeky poses followed by Marie’s big wide grin trying to flirt her way to the top. Didn’t work for me. She seems excited about it though.
Bruno said “I’m gonna tell you the truth. You always come out here giving your heart and soul. Technically the Samba is tricky. Technically it wasn’t your best.” Carrie Ann said that it was very entertaining and her range of motion is very limited and it showed here. Len said technically she isn’t the strongest. But right on the money with the entertainment factor. Yeah, that’s nice talk for - Marie, you don’t compare with the others. Marie, you don’t belong in the finals. Her score was 8’s across the board for a 24 out of 30. They were surprised! I’m not.
As we cut to break, we see Helio and Julianne back stage and he has her glasses in her hand. She’s acting like she can’t see. I just love these two. They are up next dancing the judgest pick of the jive. The first time he danced it he got 3 8’s so they are looking for improvement. They are all decked out in sock-hop outfits - pink sock hop outfits. They dance to “Let’s Twist Again”. It was cute and Julianne is quite the actress especially her face at the end. I would have liked to seen more jive kicks though as I love watching that, but overall it was pretty cute and I enjoyed it. The entertainment factor was way more than Marie’s that is for sure. He’s super excited about it as he picks Julianne up and twirls her around - and the crowd LOVES it as the keep cheering and you can’t even hear Carrie Ann! Carrie Ann said “It was completely exciting. I loved it, but, you had some problems with your footwork and your flickss and kicks were a bit off.” Len said, “You’re flatfooted. You come out high octane, but unfortunately it was a disappointment.” Bruno said, “Boundless energy, everyone loves you..the footwork wasn’t good enough, but the performance was great.” Julianne looks a bit disappointed - and she should be. The judges were hard on them. They received 2 8’s from Len and Carrie Ann and a thankful 9 from Bruno for a total of 25 out of 30. Either Marie’s scores needed to be lowers like 7 or Helio’s needed to be higher because her getting 8’s isn’t the same as Helio getting 8’s. Ugh! I’m dissappointed.
Leaderboard after round 1
Mel and Maks 28 out of 30
Helio and Juliane 25 out of 30
Marie and Jonathon 24 out of 30
Now onto the freestyle dances with Mel and Maks up first. This is supposedly where everyone pulls out the stops and can do lifts, tricks, and basically throw the rule book out the window. Yayyy - we don’t like rule books. She’s all decked out in black and looks fantastic. They dance to Timbaland’s Song and the title has escaped me, but it is something about “Like you Just the Way You Are”. He spins a chair around while Mel waits by a chair with her back to the audience. He rips her black top from her revealing a red silky leotard resembling lingerie in my opinion and I must admit that these singers are AWFUL on this song. If you’ve heard the original, these singers are just awful - ugh! It is like nails on a chalkboard and really interrupts me watching the dance. Personally, I don’t know what Maks was thinking here. This lacked content - I wasn’t following what was going on. There were a lot of lifts in the air, but it didn’t seem to go with the song. I was bored. The crowd initially didn’t stand up. The Spice Girls did and then everyone followed suit. Carrie Ann said “Although I enjoyed it, I think you are better than that. I don’t think it showcased all that you did. It wasn’t all I was hoping for.” The Spice Girls boo her in the background and Tom being the great host he is says “I know someone who’s not getting tour tickets.” LOL! That Tom! Len said “I loved the lifts. I loved the humor and all that work with the chair. I thought you gave a great performance. It didn’t flow for me, but great job.” Bruno said, “Spectacular lifts. Cool! Hip! You put something in that we don’t usually see. You tried it and you did a good job.” I’m not sure what Bruno is referring to and by the look on Maks face, neither does he as he looks completely puzzled as he wrinkles his nose and gives a blank stare. They hug Tom really big and Maks even kisses his cheek as he does the bit into the commercial - they then run off to go backstage with bustin-out Samantha. She received 3 9’s for a total of 27 out of 30. Mel thought she was gonna get a 4 or 5. Hmm..I wonder why. Mel and Maks play backstage as Samantha does her spiel about votes - yada yada. Maks grabs Samantha’s card and starts fanning himself and Mel. He then starts fanning her behind as she shakes it. It was pretty cute and Mel said “Wooh..I like that!”
Next up is cheater, Marie. I’m preparing myself to see some cheeky poses and her cheeky face as she acts her way to the mirrorball trophy. Jonathon comes out carrying Marie and she wobbles around like a dummy (no pun intended). She has rosy cheeks so I guess she’s no dummy, but a doll. They dance to “Start Me Up” by The Rolling Stones. Um, yeah, I don’t really have any words for what I just saw. Very cheesy - where’s the wine? She never really left the doll pose - she could have at least come out of that persona to give us some good moves, but it was all choppy like she was wooden. Yep, still in character, but where’s the dancing? She even fell on the last lift. EmbarrASSing is all I can say. Len said, “You think you have a good idea and when it comes out it somehow doesn’t work. I’ve got to say in this routine for me - didn’t happen.” Bruno said, “This is the loopiest thing I’ve ever seen. It defies criticism. It is like Baby Jane and the Bride of Chucky. How can I criticize it. It isn’t a dance. It’s unique.” Carrie Ann said, “I will give you that you are a risk taker. You are the queen performer. I’m gonna agree with the guys. Sometimes we just make some odd choices and that one was not the best.” Marie boasts that she’s a doll designer. DUH! This is a dance show not a doll designer show. Samantha asks her a question and I guess Marie gets long winded and Samantha cuts her off very abruptly. I loved it! Good job, Samantha! Her scores were 2 7’s from Len and Bruno and an 8 from Carrie Ann for a 22 out of 30. Samantha again cuts off Marie and it is sooooo hilarious! I think Samantha is getting annoyed with Marie..and frankly, so would I. Obnoxious people make me tired!
Finally Helio and Julianne and their freestyle dance. They are decked out in racecar driver gear. CUTE! LOVE IT! They step out of the gear and reveal some sparkly gold outfits Helio’s still resembling a racecar driver and Julianne has on gold boots. They do a lot of 60’s style movements (mashed potatoe, alligator) as that is what the song called for. I can’t for the life of me think of the title of the song, but it will come to me. I have to take a moment to compose myself. I have tears streaming down my face. This was a happy feel good song and I guess I just loved it so much that it overwhelmed me. I really, really loved it! When Helio was lifting her above his head and she was spralled out straight, he was bobbing her around and had this huge, huge grin on his face. It is so typical of him. They sat at the end like they were in the race car and it soooo gelled with the music and their moves before it. It was perfect. The lifts were great and they had so much fun. They were so excited when they finished and so am I! A perfect ending! The crowd is on their feet. Helio is picking up Julianne. They are jumping all over the place. Tom keeps saying “You Did it!” and Helio screams back “I did it!” You did, Helio! Did the judges think so?
Bruno said, “Well, here we got it taking on a very difficult routine and lifts.” Carrie Ann said, “I’m worn out. Helio, that was fantastic. You are a perfect blend of what Marie brings to the table and Mel B. brings to the table. You’ve got technique and the entertainment factor, but the lifts were a little rough going in and out.” Len said, “Best freestyle of the night by miles!” Woohoo! Helio thanked everyone including “this little one” referring to Julianne. She laughed. Samantha let him talk - and for that, Thank You Samantha. His scores were 2 10’s from Len and Bruno and a PMSy 9 from Carrie Ann for a total of 29 out of 30. They dance and hop as Samantha does her Spiel. Helio even gets up in the camera real close. It was sooo cute.
Who takes the cake? Helio and Julianne! Who will be the runner up? Mel and Maks. I don’t see how Marie could win after those pitiful performances. Celine Dion will be on tonight’s results show and it will be 2 hours - YAYY! Can’t wait.
Leaderboard after both rounds
Mel and Maks with 55 out of 60
Helio and Julianne with 54 out of 60
Marie and Jonathon with 46 out of 60

Finale Part I

This is it the big kauna, the finale show with Mel B., Helio Castroneves, and the dark horse Marie Osmond, no telling who will win. Could it be a big Osmond upset or my favorite Helio or maybe Scary Spice can actually pull it off. We’ll see. First impression, Marie looks like a banana, Mel B is all boobage and Helio and Julianne look adorable in sock hop outfits. Speaking of all boobs, whoa Samantha Harris!!
Mel B. and Maksim are up first as always she has a lot to live up to. They are doing their freestyle dance, with some hip hop help from Spice dancer guys. They are going to do the judges pick Cha Cha Cha first to see if they have improved since their first dance, ummm yeah they have. Mel B. starts the dance by jumping on the lap of her husband in the audience, very cute. This is so fabulous, Mel can really shake it and she looks amazing, I love that the whole Spice rack is there cheering her on. Len loved it, Bruno loved it, Carrie wanted more excitement, I can see that. Two 9’s and a 10 from Bruno, love that Bruno!!
The spoiler Marie Osmond is back, despite as Tom Bergeron noted, never topping the leader board. They are practicing lifts for their freestyle dance, It looks like Jonathan is going to get a hernia!! Then they are spying on Helio and Julianne-CHEEEZY!!. They are doing the Samba first in the judges round. This is the normal Osmond Schtick, not great, not even in the same league as her competitors. It just shows what a showbiz force she is that she could even be here tonight. Ugh. Bruno said technically it was not great but she is a great entertainer, Carrie and Len agreed. OK, she’s fun but she really is not a great dancer, good thing this is not a dance competition. Oh no, she designed the freestyle costume after those horrible shopping channel dolls, I need to puke. Straight 8’s, probably better than they deserved.
Up third is my new boyfriend Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough. They are doing the Jive as their judges pick. I can’t wait. Julianne points out that Helio is at a disadvantage because he has to do all of the lifting, it helps that Julianne weighs about 85 lbs. Helio said he was taking the ladies down, he is adorable. Oh my god, could they be any cuter, I think this choreography is the best of the season!!! I love it, I love all of it-they should totally win!! Standing ovation, YAY YAY YAY!!! Carrie can’t even speak over all of the yelling, it was great!! Carrie, complained about footwork, so did Len he even called it a disappointment. Bruno said the footwork was not good enough, but the performance was great, I’m hoping for 9’s, I think they should get 10’s though! Two 8’s and a 9 from Bruno, no way was Helio equal to Marie, that is just crazy talk.
First for the freestyle round is Mel B. and Maksim. Mel has on a black dress thing, that looks like it will go away at some point. I’m right. I’m sorry to say it and maybe it is the music, but I am not impressed with this dance at all. It is too slow, too boring, I was hoping for a lot more from them. I kept waiting for excitement and it just was not there. Carrie agreed and called out the Spice Girls for booing her, loved that. Len liked it but thought it was a bit off. Bruno thought it was a good job, which is not a great compliment, I’m thinking 9’s again for them. I’m right three 9’s, could have been worse. Samantha said the judges were grumpy, I agree.
Marie and Jonathan are next. Jonathan carries Marie out and winds her up like a doll, it is really cheesy. Yeah, the doll thing got old quick and Marie did more acting than dancing. It stunk. Len said that it did not work. Bruno said it was the loopiest thing he had ever seen and it defied criticism. Carrie agreed with the guys that it was an odd choice. HATED IT!! Marie said she did it for her crazy doll collector fans, yuck. Two 7’s and an 8 from Carrie, I hope she comes in third.
Helio & Julianne are in race car driver outfits, is there no end to this cheesiness??? YES! FABULOUS!! Great lifts, super awesome choreography. All of it was great, miles ahead of everyone else in the competition. Another standing ovation. Helio and Julianne have to win this. Bruno talks about how difficult the lifts they did are. Carrie claims they were a little rough coming out of the lifts-whatever. Len said it was the best freestyle of the night by a mile, I expect a couple of 10’s here!! 9 from Carrie and 10’s from the boys, the crowd goes wild and I do too!!!!! Tom said Helio looked like a Brazilian Power Ranger, he is soooo funny.
I think Helio Castroneves has this in the bag and Marie Osmond should be out first. Keep your fingers crossed.
PS: This is Alyssa - and her electronics were being worked on today by some idiot MoFO’s who forgot to plug in their sattelite which means my TV didn’t tape the finale. Yep, no commentary from Alyssa tonight because I’m searching high and low for the episode to watch tonight. If anyone knows of a place where I can see a recording before tomorrow, please notify me immediately by commenting below. Thanks! ![]()

I think Tom Bergeron is the best host on television. I know earlier in the season I asked to have Samantha Harris return, but now I think he should just do the show without a co-host. I have given him kudos recently for his excellent off the cuff comments which I thought were due to the writers’ strike, however I have found out differently. I read an article last week where they talked about the effect (or lack of) the strike has on current programming. Apparently, Mr. Bergeron has been working pretty much without a net since season one.
Originally they scripted the comments he made after the performances. Although those were often funny, they did not refer to the dance, for obvious reasons. So, Tom started ad libbing his post-dance comments so they would be fresh and refer directly to the performance. He’s fabulous. His comments are not only always funny but also appropriate, something I can’t say for some other hosts who shall remain nameless but are short and on American Idol.
The judges comments too are not scripted. I was not completely surprised at that however, it makes me wonder what a conversation with Bruno Tonioli would actually be like…fun but maybe a little bit scary.
I have to give Samantha Harris a little bit of respect for her recent ad libbing. However, I don’t think she is much of a host and she does fumble her sentences often. I am certain Tom Bergeron could carry the show without her. Maybe they could have celebrity guest co-host new each week for next season, that would be fun…
Anyway, I just thought Tom Bergeron deserved some praise, he does not get nearly enough!!
This is NOT the NFL People!!

Or the NBA or the Olympics so the best team does not always win. Dancing With the Stars is not a contest of who is the best dancer. It is, much like high school, a popularity contest. As much as we, myself included there, hate to admit it Marie Osmond is popular with a capital P. She is more popular than I had ever imagined, because there is no other reason why she is still in the competition. Her popularity is also the reason that I begrudgingly say this: I think she might win this whole thing.
I know everyone hates the idea, the Internet is spewing with hatred for her and angst over Jennie Garth’s elimination. I know my pal Alyssa is beside herself with anger over it and I don’t blame her. In my opinion Marie should have been dumped a few weeks ago. If we are judging solely on dancing skills she should have been ousted before Jane Seymour and as much as I hate to admit it, probably before Cameron Mathison. But alas, here we are and the child prodigy is in the final three.
What is it that people love so much about her? Aside from the nostalgic appeal of the Donny & Marie thing, which does have an incredibly loyal following, I believe women all over the country are rooting for her for several reasons. The first reason ladies like my mother are cheering for her is her age. She’s 47 and merely performing on Dancing With The Stars for a woman that age is quite a feet, much less winning the mirrorball. What a confidence booster to see her dramatic weight loss and bursting energy every week, I’m sure that it has gotten more than one woman off the couch to the gym and the telephone. Another reason people root for her is that she is a mother of eight. I know she didn’t give birth to all of them, but trust me as a mother of four, giving birth is the easy part. I don’t look forward to the stress of teenagers, I’m sure mom’s and dad’s across the country are rooting for her to look cool again to her teenage children. One other thing she’s got is her truly award winning wit. She’s sassy, self deprecating, and funny-who doesn’t love that. She is very good at acting like she doesn’t care if she wins and that she just wants to get through the dances and not pass out again. My guess is, she is nothing like that in the rehearsals. I bet she takes it all quite seriously and works incredibly hard all of the time, you would have to be a shark to have survived show business for as long as she has. Oh, and she’s also a big cheese on home shopping, those ladies are used to dialing…
So there is is folks, my newest semi-prediction is that Marie Osmond just might win this thing. Like I said, DWTS is not the NFL.
