I love double dance week! I think it really separates the men from the boys, figuratively speaking. I hate that Mark Ballas is wearing some kind of uniform and is it just me or does Marissa Jaret Winokur look much thinner. Kudos to Samantha Harris’ stylist, who for once did not put her in a pageant dress.

Right into the dances with Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani doing the Rumba and the Tango this week, trying to bring sexy back. Marissa is having trouble being sensual, she looks a bit like a little kid pretending to be a grown up. Tango first and she starts off great witha big high kick. Her lines are nice and her footwork is better than I expected. She had a weird look on her face a few times, but otherwise not bad. Len calls it Marissa’s best dance. Tony called it something unintelligible, but it was a compliment. Carrie also was all about love. Three 9’s for a 27, Marissa & Tony are giddy with excitement. Tom Bergeron (who I love) said she gets so excited that he thought he danced well, tee hee.

Second to dance is Cristian de la Fuente and Cheryl Burke they will do the Samba and the Viennese Waltz. Cristian named some of the dance moves after the judges, very funny. They do the Viennese Waltz first and it is very pretty. Chery is wearing a beautiful flowing blue dress. They do an amazing spin at the end, it was all very pretty, but maybe a bit boring…something was missing for me. Bruno called it a pleasure to watch. Carrie said it lacked a little bit of energy and Len thought it lacked content. I’m picking up what you’re putting down, Len! Two 8’s and 9 from Bruno for a 25. Samantha does some uninteresting chatter backstage.

Third to dance are Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas, also doing the Viennese Waltz first then the Cha Cha Cha. Mark is stressed so Kristi takes him ice skating for fun. We get to see some of her great skating moves, also why she is a complete ringer for this competition. They start out with Kristi holding a sparkley umbrella and then dancing with it, trick. Once she drops it the dance is beautiful and artistic. Kristi does some amazing spins that end with her falling into Mark’s arms. They end back under the umbrella, yep they are going to get a perfect score. Carrie loved it, she thought using the umbrella was a risk, but that her turns were off. Len said th start was a too long, he also thought Bruno was causing global warming with his hot air. Bruno loved it, and said it was very difficult “three turns then into a drop, you try it!” Two 9’s and an 8 from Len for a 26, their lowest score yet…no way!

Next up is Mario and Karina Smirnoff, as usual she is nearly naked. They are trying to come back from being in the bottom last week, Mario talks about his fans-I don’t know who those people are. They are doing the Mambo and the Foxtrot this week, I bet Mario will have trouble with the Foxtrot. They are doing it first, so we’ll see. Actually, so far Mario is surprisingly light on his feet. Their turns are nice and the dance has a great rhythm to it, impressive. Mario really looks like a leading man throughout this one, nice. Len said he is not the most elegant but well done anyway. Bruno said it was a pleasure to watch him, but that he lacked a little control. Carrie applauded him for doing difficult steps. Oh yay, Def Leppard and Kenny Mayne will be on tomorrow!!! Three 8’s for a 24, I think it was a few points better than that, but what do I know?

The whiners Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough are up next. They try to make up and apologize for being jerks, I don’t accept. They are doing the Mambo and the Tango. Shannon continues to act like a weak, crying female-I hate that. Their Tango is first and it is oddly stiff. She looks strange and awkward kind of like she is in pain. She misses grabbing his hat off at the end, that will probably make her cry. Bruno said it was fascinating, but called out the mistake at the end. Carrie called it her best dance yet, by far. Len said it was terrific, maybe I was watching something else! Three 9’s for a 27, I guess.

Next up are Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska doing the Paso Doble and the Quickstep. They are doing the Quickstep first and they open with a lot of energy and a big jump from the very tall Jason. I’m loving this dance!! Jason is so light on his feet for such a big guy and they look like they are having an amazing time. He even runs over and throws papers from the judges table all over the floor. I want to see that again tomorrow! Carrie said it was larger than life! Len called him tenacious and that he is definitely in the finals. Bruno called it the performance of the night! I smell a 30! Oh no, two 10’s and a 9 from Len for 29. What are you thinking Len????

Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani are back to start he Latin round with the Rumba. It is slow and not at all sexy. I can tell they are trying to be sexy, but I just don’t buy it at all. Yawn. Bruno said it was nice, but that she could have pushed a little bit more on the sex! Carrie thought it was great. Len said it was too careful and there was not enough hip action for him. Two8’s and a 9 from Carrie for a 25. Marissa is way too excited.

Cristian de la Fuente and Cheryl Burke are doing the Samba next. It is very hot. This is one of those dances that we have all been waiting for and Cristian does not disappoint, wait a minute, something happened. Cristian hurt his arm, pulled a muscle in his arm. They had to stop the dance, he really looks like he is in pain. I backtracked to see it again, and I think he was just wiggling when it happened, but then he dropped Cheryl..yikes this is not good. Poor guy, he seems embarrassed. Back to the show and Cristian was diagnosed with a severe muscle cramp. The judges are going to base this score on the dance up to the point that he was injured. They all give him kudos for trying to continue to dance, tough job for them. Tom Bergeron tries to fill some time with more scores recaps, Samantha jumps right to the scores because she can’t fill time. They get three 7’s for a 21, Cristian says it hurts his arm and that he could not finish and walks off clearly upset.

Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas are doing the Cha Cha Cha next. Kristi has crazy hair. Technically this looks fine to me, but I actually expected more from them. It does not seem that complicated for her, maybe it lacked some content? They get a standing ovation, guess it is better than I thought. Maybe it is Mark’s lack of experience choreographing two dances that is starting to show. Len did not like the choreography, them dancing separately and the as he called it, boogaloo hip hopping. Bruno loved it, calling contemporary. Len and Bruno had a great argument int he midst of all of it. Carrie also loved it, she and Bruno are all about the great choreography, I personally did not like it at all. Two 10’s and an 8 from Len, I’m with you Len!

Mario and Karina Smirnoff are up next doing their Mambo. It is fast and saucy. I am loving this dance they are having fun and doing a lot of great little moves. Love it, loved all of it. Bruno calls it Mario’s comfort zone. Carrie called out one little out of sync spot. Len called it wild, wacky, and wonderful. Samantha does a terrible interview, interrupting Mario mid sentence, ugh. They get three 9’s for a 27.

Doing the Mambo next are Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough. She is back to no rhythm and no hip action. Shannon looks like a little kid trying out for a talent show. She’s horrible!! This is like watching Marie Osmond again, hated it! Carrie liked the emotion of the dance, but called her out for awkward lines. Len said she had a bionic bum, but that she looks gawky sometimes. Bruno also said she has a gangliness to her moves, yep she does! Backstage Shannon reveals that she is wearing a fake butt pad!! They get three 8’s for a 24, again whatever.

The final dancers are Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska doing the Paso Doble, I am looking forward to this. Jason is looking huge and it works perfectly for this dance. This is really great, very strong and masculine with Jason in complete control, but I think there was a bit of a lift that they might get pinched for, shoot!! Len said he scared the life out of him, but did not love all the posing, he said “but when you’ve got a body like mine,” hahaha! Bruno loved it. Carrie calls out the lift, there goes a perfect 30. Two 9’s and an 8 from Len for a 26, what’s up with Len??

So, my favorite dance of the night was Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska’s quickstep. My least favorite was Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough’s Mambo. I think their nasty attitudes last week are going to be their downfall this week, but I am worried that Cristian might be in tough shape too because of that last low score, we’ll see won’t we!!
