Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas are opening tonight’s show with a Paso Doble. I’m sure they will nail it technically, but can she play the part? I like their costumes, the deep purple and gold looks great on both of them. I don’t know what this song is, but it is horrible. I don’t know how you do a Paso Doble to this song. I have to admit that this dance is perfect, the choreography is great and I even sense a slight emotional connection from Kristi. Len said it was great but his only criticism was the sameness of all of the dances, on an emotional level, from Kristi…I’m picking up what he is putting down. Bruno and Carrie loved it. Two 10’s and a 9 from Carrie. First 10’s of the season, here we go!

Priscilla Presley and Louis Van Amstel are doing the Viennese Waltz, one of my favorites. Priscilla threatens to out dance Kristi Yamaguchi this week, I think she could beat her on fan base, but not on dancing alone. However, Priscilla Presley is one hot mama in a nearly nude bodiced dress, she is literally swimming in a sea of green sleeves and fabric the whole thing is stunning. The dance is lovely, the choreography is fabulous, you can see Louis’ personality in his choreography, it is always fluid and refined. The judges seem to like the dance, with only minor complaints, but Len and Carrie said they had to deduct points for a lift…I did not see that and if it was there it was accidental. Two 7’s and an 8 from Bruno for 22, not enough to beat out Kristi, but maybe next week says Priscilla.

Adam Carolla & Julianne Hough are doing the Paso Doble. Adam says Julianne thinks he is a dancer so she is making the steps harder. They begin the dance with Adam on a unicycle, which is crazy but somehow works. The dance itself is great and Adam wore a mask through the whole thing, I’m guessing to help him keep the mean Paso Doble face. Carrie said it was smooth and fantastic, and then he got off the unicycle. Len called Adam a lovable character, but not much of a dancer compared to the others. Adam thanked the wardrobe department for dressing him like a silent porn star, Julianne looked embarrassed by that comment. Bruno said Adam was a classic example of how genius and insanity go hand in hand. Two 6’s and a 7 from Len for a 19, Adam laughs it off and promotes, “The Hammer”. I still love him.

Marlee Matlin and Fabian Sanchez are up with the Viennese Waltz. Marlee also is out to beat Kristi Yamaguchi. Marlee is nervous about the dance because of all the spins and balance that are required, I have faith. I love this song, Billy Joel’s “Always a Woman” Marlee Matlin looks like she is losing weight, lucky gal. I like the artistry of their choreography, they are playing the love song card and it is beautiful. I was hoping for them to go for a little more speed and spinning, but still very nice. Len said it was poignant, but Marlee’s head and posture need some work in certain holds. Bruno liked how she interprets the music and gets into the role, but that he agreed with Len about the posture. Carrie was crying and could hardly speak, I bet my mom was sobbing too. Three 8’s for a 24 still no beating that Kristi Yamaguchi.

Up next is Mario and Karina Smirnoff trying to make up for last weeks low score. They are doing the Paso Doble, which should be a good dance for him, he plays that aggressive strong male well. Their music is rock, which makes for a very exciting dance. Karina’s dress is red with gold trim that really sparkles when she moves. I think they look great it is exciting to watch them moving so deftly across the stage. I’m not certain Mario is completely in control but I like it a lot. Bruno said it was strong and powerful and he liked it. Carrie said his posture got weird a few times. Len said Mario only had one style of dance and it is wild and he should work on the styling a little bit more. Bruno and Carrie were appalled by his comments. Samantha asked some dumb question and Mario used his answer as a chance to plug his album. They get a 24 with a 8 from Carrie, a 7 from Len, and a 9(!!) from Bruno.

The next performers are Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska. I need to say this, I really don’t like Edyta. I think this has something to do with her having been Cameron Mathison’s partner last season, just needed to put that out there. They did some schtick promotion for Medieval Times, which is probably owned by Disney, which owns ABC. They are doing the Viennese Waltz it is ok, I think Jason messed up a hold here in the beginning and he is pretty stiff in his soldiers. I’m pretty sure he tripped over Edyta’s skirt, yikes. They end in the splits, which was a nice touch. I was bored with this dance though, I don’t know what all the catcalling in the audience is about. All the judges love it, calling it sexy and elegant. Carrie did call out the stumble on the skirt but said she would forgive it. Carrie gives him a 10!!!, Len a 9, and Bruno another 10!! WOW!! They caught up with the dancing celebrity juggernaut that is Kristi Yamaguchi, woohoo.

Cristian de la Fuente and Cheryl Burke are back this week doing the Paso Doble, this should be his dance, even though they pretend that it is hard for him to learn. They go to the opening of Cheryl’s dance studio, Cristian is wearing a weird scarf to the event, icky. First off, these costumes are some of the worst yet. Cristian is in tight pants, and a long jacket with no shirt and a rosary around is neck. Cheryl is in some crazy and hideous dominatrix outfit. The dance is all right, they have the fiery feeling of the Paso Doble down perfect, and there is a lot of yelling going on. I think there were some issues though I can’t put my finger on them. Len thought the music conquered them a little bit, I can see what he means. Bruno really liked it and Carrie disagreed with Len about the music but told him to watch his eyes when he is out of the hold, because they get a little glazed over. Funny. Samantha interviews him backstage and he says something about his grandfather which she ignores. They score a 9 from Carrie and Bruno and an 8 from Len for a total of 26.

Next up is Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough, they are already milking his neck drama. Derek has a rhinestone neck brace, clever. They show some clips of him snapping his neck and being taken away in an ambulance, it looked staged. Derek choreographed the dance from a chair with Jonathan Roberts standing in for him. He overdid it while the cameras were rolling. They are doing the Viennese Waltz because I’m sure it was not as bad as the dramatic montage. They look great doing the waltz and if Derek is dancing through pain it does not show. I am impressed with Shannon’s agility on the dance floor she is improving by leaps and bounds. Bruno said the hot babe has graduated into a class act. Carrie said it was really refreshing and Len loved it too. Shannon compliments Jonathan for his help with practice, Derek acted offended. They get two two 9’s and a 10 from Len for a total of 28. It looks like the other celebs are gaining on Mrs. Yamaguchi.

Up last is Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani with the Paso Doble, I bet it will be terrible. As usual she is frustrated and looking like she does not know what she is doing. I really hope she goes home this week. Their costumes are very traditional and hideous. Her kicks are kind of low and they are moving too slowly for my tastes. The audience is standing but I think it was bad and she is going to get called out for it. Nope, Carrie thought it was fantastic and that she finally channeled all of her emotions into the dance. Bruno & Len said about the same, I must be watching another show or maybe I just really dislike her. She is giddy and annoying backstage. Three 8’s across the board for a 24, whatever. I still hate her.

Tough choices tonight for top dance, no doubt that Kristi Yamaguchi was the best, but I think my favorite was Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough and my least, again was Marissa Jaret Winokur, please go home Marissa!!

Well, Bridget, you were wrong. I was not sobbing, I was cheering because I thought Marlee was fantastic. I do agree that Marissa needs to go. She just doesn’t have what the others have. I also think the costumes on some are so skimpy that pretty soon they will be having blurry spots on the dancers so we don’t see what we shouldn’t! I for one would like to see Kristi go. Shannon and Derek were wonderful. I believe tomorrow the bottom two will be Marissa and Adam.
I am pulling for Marlee to come out above all of them. Pass the tissues.
