Floyd Mayweather and Karina Smirnoff

Floyd Mayweather, WBC Super Welterweight Boxing Champion, is the world champion in 5 different weight classes. His record is outstanding with 38 wins, zero losses, and 24 knockouts. He’s nicknamed “Pretty Boy” by his competitors because ironically his face never gets bruises, cuts, or scrapes of any kind due to the defensive techniques his father taught him. He’s been to the Olympic games in 1996 in Atlanta as a featherweight where he went on to win the bronze medal. The Olympics was the last time, Floyd Mayweather lost a fight.

His partner, Russian, Karina Smirnoff’s speciality is Latin dancing.  She’s based in New Jersey and is not currently competing professionally to focus on winning Dancing with the stars. At age 12 she came to the US from Ukraine with her family. At age 5 she began taking ballet lessons and eventually moved on to figure skating for another 5 years. At age 9 she was introduced to ballroom dancing, fell in love and never looked back since.

Some interesting facts: Karina graduated from Fordham University with a law degree. She put her law career on hold to pursue ballroom dancing full time.

In season 3 she was partnered with actor Mario Lopez. They went on to take 2nd place. She also developed a romantic relationship with Mario on and off the dance floor. The two remain a couple today. In season 4, she was partnered with singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus and took 5th place.
