Tom Selleck fills the old man roll on DWTS

Tom Selleck has signed on for this season of Dancing With The Stars. There are a lot of news articles citing him as the former star of Magnum P.I., whatever that is. Those of us not yet in the AARP remember him as Monica Geller’s love interest for a short time on “Friends.” Chandler grew a mustache to look like him, it was very funny (sigh).

At 63, Selleck will fulfill the old man roll that has been filled in previous years by the likes of Jerry Springer and Wayne Newton. Last season this part was played by, Steve Guttenberg (aka The Gute), his co-star in the classic film “Three Men and a Baby.” I hope that next season Ted Danson will appear so that the trifecta will be complete.

Why is it that the older women are called cougars, but the older men aren’t really called anything other than older men? I think we should start calling them old panthers….
